The Ordinary Extraordinary 

In our contemporary world we are progressively presented with more and more experiences and occurrences of an extraordinary nature. Over the past 20 years alone it seems as if the extraordinary has taken on a life of its own. People now routinely report extraordinary experiences, such as psychic phenomena, Out-of-body-episodes, Near- death-experiences, hauntings, channeling of disembodied spirits, visitation by angels, sightings of UFOs and abductions by aliens, to name a few. All of these events share a common implication of the existence of Unseen Worlds, or Otherworlds, as I like to call them. Never before in recent history have these events reached such mass proportions. It is difficult to label such experiences as aberrations of a disturbed mind when masses of perfectly normal people begin reporting extraordinary encounters. Perhaps the current increase in extraordinary events will inspire us to reevaluate our perspectives on reality. If we look toward history for answers, we may find more explanations than we might suppose.

일상화된 비범함

현대세계에서 특이한 성격의 사건과 경험들은 갈수록 증가하고 있다.  지난 20년만 봐도 기이한 일들은 자체 생명으로 살아 움직이듯 보인다. 사람들은 이제, 심령현상, 유체이탈, 임사체험, 유령출몰, 육체에서 분리된 영혼의 채널링, 천사들의 방문, UFO 목격, 외계인들에 의한 납치와 같은 특이한 경험들을 일상적으로 보고하고 있다. 사건들이 공통적으로 암시하는 것은 ‘보이지 않는 세계들‘의 존재이며, 나는 이를 ‘다른 세계들(Otherworlds)’이라 부른다. 역사상 이런 사건들이 이렇게 대규모 비율로 일어난 적은 없었다. 다수의 정상적인 사람들이 특이한 경험들을 보고하고 있기 때문에 그러한 경험을 불안한 마음의 일탈로 규정하기는 어렵다. 오늘날 비일상적인 사건들이 증가하는 것은 어쩌면 현실(리얼리티, 실재)에 관한 우리의 관점을 재고해보라는 의미일 수도 있다. 답을 찾기 위해 역사를 본다면 예상보다 많은 설명을 찾을 수도 있다.

Otherworlds – Reevaluating the Past

Consideration 1: Do ancient records suggest the presence of Visitors from other worlds? Throughout the mythologies of ancient cultures, from indigenous tribes to ancient Sumerian, Egyptian, Greek and Roman civilizations, we are presented with accounts of extraordinary visitations by gods and demons from other worlds. The Visitors-from-elsewhere were both feared and worshipped by ancient man and the foundations of most ancient cultures were built upon a literal acknowledgment of unseen worlds. In contemporary times we have dismissed ancient recorded accounts of other-worldly visitations as the superstitious folly or imaginative fantasy of a primitive peoples, much in the same way that we attempt to invalidate the extraordinary experiences of people today, by viewing them as mental aberrations.

다른세계들 – 과거에 대한 재평가

고려점1: 고대 기록이 다른 세계에서 온 방문자들(Visitors)의 존재를 시사하는가? 토착부족으로부터 고대 수메르와 이집트, 그리스 로마문명에 이르는 고대문명 신화들을 통해 우리는 다른 세계로부터 온 신들과 악마들의 특이한 방문에 관한 기록을 접하고 있다. 어딘가로부터 온 방문자들은 고대인들에게 경외나 두려움의 대상이었고 대부분 고대 문명들은 이러한 보이지 않는 세계들을 문자 그대로 인정하는 기반 위에 세워졌다. 오늘날 비일상적 경험을 겪는 사람들을 정신 이상으로 여기고 그들의  경험 자체를 무효화 하듯, 우린 다른 세계 방문에 관한 고대의 기록들을 어리석은 미신이나 원시인들이 상상하는 판타지 정도로 무시해 왔다.

Our scientific communities tend to view the Otherworld beliefs of contemporary humans and ancient cultures in symbolic terms, considering them to be representations of psychological archetypes of the times, rather than as valid evidence for human contact with other worlds.

오늘날 과학계는 현대인들의 다른 세계에 대한 믿음과 고대 문화를 상징적 관점으로 보려고 한다. 인간이 다른 세계와 접촉한 유효한 증거가 아닌 그 시대의 심리적 원형의 표현으로 간주하는 것이다.  

Conclusion 1: It is quite possible that ancient records included both symbolic and literal representations of reality. Our contemporary interpretations of ancient records may not fully reflect the actualities those records were intended to describe and our potential misrepresentation of ancient events may cause us to misinterpret the extraordinary events of today. What if the ancient mythologies were, at least in part, a colorful presentation of literal events? In our current societies we record and capture the essence of our cultural events through various media, from news reports, to drama, comedy, fiction and non-fiction, to the arts. Ancient peoples might have been doing precisely the same thing when they etched out odd flying craft and helmeted visitors in their cave drawings or wrote of their elaborate dramas with angels, creator gods and Visitors from Otherworlds. It would be easier to remain complacent within our interpretation of these ancient events as imaginings of the primitive mind, if we were not presently being confronted with precisely the same type of extraordinary encounters within our contemporary society.

결론 1: 고대 기록들이 상징적 현실(실재)과 문자 그대로 일어난 현실 모두를 포함할 가능성이 매우 크다. 고대 기록에 관한 현시대의 해석은 그 기록들이 묘사하고자 한 실상을 온전히 반영하지 못할 수 있다. 고대 사건들에 대한 우리의 오역은 오늘날 동일하게 일어나고 있는 특이한 사건들에 대한 잘못된 해석으로 이어질 수 있다. 고대 신화가 적어도 일부라도, 문자그대로 일어난 사건을 다채로운 형태로 표현하고 있다면? 오늘날 우리는 여러 문화적 사건들의 정수를 뉴스 보도와 드라마, 소설, 허구와 같은 다양한 미디어를 통해 포착하고 기록한다. 고대인들이 괴상한 비행선과 헬멧을 쓴 방문자들을 동굴벽화에 아로새기거나 다른 세계에서 온 천사와 창조 신들과 방문자들로 가득한 정교한 드라마를 썼을 때, 그들은 오늘날 우리가 하는 것과 정확히 같은 행위를 했던 것일 수 있다. 만약 우리가 오늘날 같은 유형의 특이한 경험들과 직면하지 않았다면 고대 사건들을 원시적 마음의 상상물로 여기는 현대 해석에 안주하는 편이 수월했을 것이다.

Consideration 2: Is the belief in the literal existence of Otherworlds a minority perspective? Growing numbers of contemporary humans are reporting events of Otherworld contact. Over the last 40 years contemporary New Age culture has emerged, with much of its emphasis placed upon the spiritual worlds. New Age spiritual development frequently includes communication with channeled spirits and contact with ETs. Native American, Aboriginal and many other tribal cultures have always interpreted Otherworlds in literal terms. The majority of our ancient races left evidence suggesting that contact-from- elsewhere served an integral role within the very structure of their sociological organization. From the polytheistic, pantheistic, pagan and monotheistic religions of the ancients, through the rich historical tapestries of cultural mythology and up to the religious traditions we hold most dear today, humans have demonstrated awareness of the existence of other inhabited worlds. The names, locations and attributes assigned to the Otherworlds differ between cultures. Christianity and Judaism refer to Otherworlds in terms of heaven, hell and purgatory. Ancient Grecian myths described them as Olympus – the abode of the Gods. Tribal cultures and New Age ideologies identify the Otherworlds in terms of various dimensional levels and sometimes as identified planetary systems in our known galaxies. Regardless of the terminology and categorization used, the common belief in the literal existence of other inhabited worlds remains the same.

고려점 2: 다른세계들의 존재를 믿는 것이 소수의 관점인가? 오늘날 다른세계와의 컨택 사건을 보고하는 사람들이 늘어나고 있다. 지난 40년간 영적 세계에 중점을 둔 현대 뉴에이지 문화가 출현했다. 뉴에이지 영적 발달은 종종 채널링 된 영혼과의 소통 및 외계인과의 컨택을 포함하고 있다. 아메리칸 인디언과 원주민, 기타 부족문화들은 다른세계들을 언제나 문자 그대로 해석해왔다. 우리 고대 종족 대다수는 다른 곳으로부터의 컨택이 그들 사회 구조에 필수적 역할을 했음을 시사하는 증거를 남겼다. 고대의 다신교, 범신론, 이교도, 일신교 종교로부터 신화의 풍부한 역사적 태피스트리와 오늘날 우리가 소중히 여기는 종교 전통에 이르기까지, 인간은 다른 거주 세계들(other inhabited worlds)의 존재를 인지하고 있음을 드러내왔다. 다른세계들을 지칭하는 이름, 장소와 속성들은 문화마다 차이가 있다. 기독교와 유대교는 다른 세계들을 천국과 지옥, 연옥의 개념으로 언급한다. 고대 그리스 신화는 신들의 거처인 올림푸스로 묘사했다. 부족문화와 뉴에이지 사상은 다른 세계를 다양한 차원 수준(dimensional levels)이나, 때로 우리가 알고있는 은하계 내 확인된 행성 시스템으로 식별한다. 사용된 용어와 분류에 관계없이, 여기엔 다른 거주하는 세계의 존재에 대한 공통된 믿음이 깔려있다.

Conclusion 2: The majority of collective humanity has validated within their belief paradigms, the existence of unseen worlds inhabited by intelligent beings that periodically interacted with human culture. Within the traditional, New Age and indigenous religious communities of the present day and throughout the ancient civilizations of historical record, the collective majority of humanity has always acknowledged the literal existence of the unseen Otherworlds and the reality of Visitors from elsewhere. Whether the Visitors are viewed as angels, demons, spirits or ETs, the underlying implication is that mysterious Visitors from Otherworlds interact with Earth and human culture.

결론 2: 전체 인류의 대부분이 그들의 믿음 체계안에서 인간 문화와 주기적으로 상호작용하는 지적 존재들이 거주하는 보이지 않는 세계의 존재를 입증해왔다. 오늘날 뉴에이지와 토착 종교 공동체는 그들의 전통안에서, 그리고 고대 문명의 역사 기록을 통틀어, 인류 전체의 대다수는 보이지 않는 다른 세계가 문자그대로 존재한다는 것과 다른 곳에서 오는 방문자들의 실재를 항상 인정해왔다. 방문자들이 천사로 보여지든, 악마, 영혼 혹은 외계인으로 간주되든, 다른 세계에서 온 미스터리한 방문자들이 지구와 인간 문화와 상호작용하고 있다는데 근본의 함의가 있다.

Consideration 3: How did the ancients know of Otherworlds if contemporary science has yet to prove their existence? Our contemporary scientific paradigms attempt to refute the existence of other inhabited worlds, based upon two primary assumptions:

고려점 3: 현대과학이 아직 그 존재를 증명하지 못한다면 고대인들은 어떻게 다른세계들을 알았을까? 현대 과학 패러다임은 두가지 주요 가정에 기초해 다른 거주세계 존재를 반박하고 있다.  

1. Conditions supportive of evolved biological life have yet to be found within local planetary environments and

2. Planets showing evidence of past or present civilization have not been found. While the scientific communities refuse to publicly validate the possible existence of inhabited Otherworlds, until they can tangibly prove this reality, the majority of humans on Earth and throughout history have known that the Otherworlds exist.

1. 진화한 생물적 생명체를 뒷받침하는 조건들이 우리 로컬 행성 환경에서 아직 발견되지 않았다는 것과

2. 과거나 현재 문명의 증거를 보여주는 행성이 아직 발견되지 않았다. 과학계가 그 현실을 명백히 증명할 때까지 다른 거주세계의 존재 가능성을 공개적으로 거부하는 반면, 역사를 통틀어 지구 대다수의 인간들은 다른세계들이 존재함을 알고 있었다.

Conclusion 3: Knowledge of the Otherworlds did not come to our historical masses through technological validation, scientific hypotheses or mathematical calculation. It is possible that this knowledge may have come as a result of direct contact with Visitors from Otherworlds and through humans interfacing directly with the realities of other-dimensional systems. Ancient peoples did not need technology to prove the existence of the unseen worlds if this reality was validated through direct experience. Otherworld knowledge may have been passed down through generations, following periodic instances of ancient physical contact with non-terrestrial Visitors.

결론 3: 다른세계들에 관한 지식은 우리 역사 대중에게 기술적 검증이나 과학적 가설 혹은 수학적 계산을 통해 전달되지 않았다. 이 지식은 다른세계 방문자들과 직접 컨택한 결과로, 그리고 다른 차원 시스템의 실재와 직접 접속한 인간들을 통해 전달되었을 수 있다. 고대인들은 이러한 실재가 직접적인 경험을 통해 입증되었다면, 보이지 않는 세계들의 존재를 증명할 기술을 필요로 하지 않았다. 다른세계 지식은 고대인들의 지구 밖 방문자들과의 주기적인 물리적 컨택 사건에 이어 세대에서 세대로 전해 졌을 것이다.      

The skepticism toward the idea of Earth visitation from Otherworld inhabitants that is presently promoted by the majority of our scientific communities, represents ideas held by only a small minority of humans, primarily those who accept the assumptions of the contemporary scientific community. Modern science may be missing the fact of Otherworld realities, which the human majority has known all along, through failure to consider a broader range of criteria when formulating their hypotheses. First of all, the hypothesis that non-earthly environments supportive of evolved biological life have not been identified is built upon the assumptions that all forms of evolved biological life require the same environmental conditions and that science has identified all possible forms of evolved biological life. The fact is, there may be types of highly evolved non-carbon based biological life forms (such as silica-based biology) of which science is unaware and other types of biology may require other types of environmental conditions. Planets assumed to be uninhabitable could actually support subterranean, surface or etheric civilizations of evolved life forms that are not yet known to exist.

현재 주류 과학계에 의해 장려되고 있는 다른세계 거주인들의 지구 방문에 대한 회의론은 단지 소수의 인간들이 지닌 생각을 나타낸다. 이들은 주로 현대 과학계의 가정(가설)을 수용하는 이들이다. 근대 과학이 가설을 세울 때 보다 광범위한 기준을 고려하지 않음으로 대다수 인간들이 알아왔던 다른 세계의 실재에 관한 사실을 놓치고 있을 수 있다. 우선 진화 생물학적 생명체를 뒷받침하는 비–지상 환경이 확인되지 않았다는 가설은 모든 형태의 진화 생물학적 생명체가 동일한 환경 조건을 필요로 한다는 것, 그리고 과학이 진화한 생물학적 형태의 모든 생명체를 확인했다는 가정에 기반한다. 사실상, 과학이 인지하지 못한 고도로 진화한 비–탄소 기반의 여러 유형의 생물학적 생명체(실리카 기반 생물체와 같은)가 있을 수 있으며, 다른 유형의 생물체들은 다른 유형의 환경 조건을 필요로 할 수 있다는 것이다. 거주할 수 없다고 추정되는 행성들이 아직 존재하지 않는 것으로 알려진 진화한 생명 형태들의 지하문명, 지표문명 혹은 에테릭 문명을 사실상 뒷받침하고 있을 수도 있다.   

Secondly and of most importance, the hypothesis that evidence of past or present civilizations has not been found on other planets is built upon two unlikely assumptions:

둘째로 가장 중요하게는, 과거 또는 현재 문명의 증거가 다른 행성에서 발견되지 않았다는 가설은 가능성이 희박한 두가지 가정에 기초한다.   

1. All planets and galaxies in the universe can be perceived, located and identified through modern technological instrumentation.

우주의 모든 행성과 은하들이 현대 기술 도구들을 통해 지각되고 위치가 파악되고 식별될 수 있다는 가정,

2. The existence of all possible worlds can be theorized through contemporary mathematical computation.

모든 가능한 세계의 존재가 현대 수학적 계산을 통해 이론화될 수 있다는 가정이다..

Our scientists have not yet seriously considered the possibility that inhabited Otherworlds may not only exist on other planets in other star systems, but that they may also reside within other-dimensional reality fields that differ from our own, within unrecognized parallel universe systems or that visitations could occur through inter-time structures that allow interface between various periods of space-time. Quantum physics theory presents new possibilities for validating the existence of parallel, interdimensional and inter-time worlds, but our scientific understanding of such realities is in its infancy.

우리 과학자들은 다음의 가능성들을 아직 심각하게 고려하지 않았다.

다른 거주 세계들이 다른 스타 시스템에 있는 다른 행성들에 존재할 뿐 아니라 지구와는 다른, 미인지 영역의 평행우주 시스템 내 다른–차원 실재필드에 존재할 수도 있다는 것, 그리고 그 방문들이 다양한 시공간들 사이에 인터페이스를 가능케 하는 시간–간(inter-time) 구조를 통해 발생할 수 있다는 것이 그것이다.

The facts are: Otherworlds, supporting advanced civilizations, may appear unseen from today’s scientific perspective because they exist in dimensions (or fields of frequency) unknown to contemporary science. They may exist in parallel universes (which Quantum physics theory is only beginning to suggest.). Non-terrestrial Visitors, reported throughout history, could originate from these unseen worlds or may visit Earth via time travel through unidentified inter-time structures. Contemporary mathematical computation may not possess the sophistication to factor multi-dimensional reality systems into workable theories, from which clear hypotheses as to the locations of Otherworlds can be drawn.

These possible explanations for the apparent invisibility of other inhabited worlds are equally as valid as the scientific assumption that such worlds cannot exist simply because science has yet to discover them. Otherworlds may not exist for science, but they have always existed for the general human collective.

사실은 이것이다: 고도로 진화한 문명을 뒷받침하는 다른 세계는 현대 과학에게 미지의 차원들(프리퀀시/주파수 필드)에 존재하기 때문에 오늘날 과학적 관점에서 보이지 않는 것(unseen)처럼 보일 수 있다. 그들은 평행 우주(양자역학 이론이 이제 막 제시하기 시작한)에 존재할 수 있다. 역사를 통해 보고되었던 외계 방문자들은 이러한 보이지 않는 세계들로부터 기원했거나, 미확인된 시간–간 구조를 통해 시간 여행으로 지구를 방문했을 수 있다. 현대의 수학 계산은 다른 세계들의 위치에 관한 분명한 가설이 도출될 수 있는, 다차원 실재 시스템을 실행가능한 이론으로 감안할 정도의 정교함을 지니지 못할 수 있다.

다른 거주세계들이 분명히 보이지 않는데 대한 이러한 가능한 설명은 과학이 아직 그들을 발견하지 못했다는 이유로 간단히 그 존재를 부정하는 과학적 가설 못지 않게 타당하다. 다른 세계들이 과학을 위해 존재하지 않을 수 있지만, 그들은 일반적인 인간 전체를 위해 항상 존재해왔다.
